Perplexity Launches iPhone Version of Comet AI Browser with Built-in Assistant

The iOS version of Comet continues most of the core features of the desktop version, including voice mode with voice questioning support, and a hybrid search experience combining traditional search results with AI answers. However, browser extensions are not yet supported. Users can obtain regular search results as they would with a normal search engine, while also leveraging the built-in Comet assistant to obtain more in-depth answers and have it perform a series of online tasks.

The Comet browser supports Perplexity’s Deep Research feature, which can summarize and digest information from multiple websites to quickly generate concise and practical summary reports. With this capability, the Comet assistant can perform a variety of web-based operations such as summarizing email content, searching for products, and comparing prices across different websites, helping users improve online information processing efficiency.

Thanks to the launch of this iOS app, Comet can now achieve multi-device collaboration: users can initiate a search on one device and then seamlessly continue it on another, improving consistency and coherence across devices.

In terms of business model, Perplexity will collect users’ browsing and search history in Comet and use it to build advertising targeting profiles for ad delivery. It is worth noting that the Comet browser initially launched last year at a price of $200 per month. Now, after landing on iOS, basic usage has been changed to free, with Pro and Max subscription plans available starting at $20 per month.
