Chinese Electric Tricycles Become a Hit in the US, Prices Soar and Sales Continue to Rise
According to CCTV Finance, in the first two months of this year, Sichuan exported over 90 million yuan worth of electric motorcycles, a year-on-year increase of more than double. Among them, electric tricycle motorcycles, which are common in China, have also seen local sales increase in tandem after becoming popular on overseas social media platforms.
The report states that in the Anju District Economic Development Zone of Suining, Sichuan, a new batch of electric tricycles destined for the United States are being loaded for shipment, with the company expecting to export approximately 1,000 units to the US this year.
The company's head stated that the vehicle's popularity across the ocean was entirely accidental. A foreign blogger purchased an electric tricycle from them, and after posting a video of it in the US, it suddenly went viral.
We contacted the blogger and sent him a few more vehicles for testing, and then we received more and more inquiries from overseas customers.
Initially, the versions sent to the US were no different from those in the Chinese market, but as orders increased and customer feedback on social media grew, the company began to upgrade them specifically.
The head explained that when communicating with US customers, they expressed a desire to be happier while working and asked if a Bluetooth speaker could be added. We equipped one for them, which initiated a journey of customization.
For example, we added wider tires, dual-cylinder hydraulic mechanics, and thicker, more robust beams to increase the vehicle's load-bearing capacity and make unloading easier.
It is understood that these electric tricycles sell for two to three thousand yuan in China, but their value increases several times over in the US market, yet sales continue to rise.
As of the end of the first quarter, the company's cumulative orders exceeded 23,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 30%, with approximately 3,000 units exported to more than 30 countries and regions in Europe, America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The head stated that they are now establishing a research and development team to create corresponding products based on customer needs.
