Movie "World War Z 2" Officially Announced - Game Sales a Major Factor
Paramount officially confirmed at CinemaCon 2026 that a sequel to "World War Z" is in development, alongside new installments of "Top Gun 3," "Call of Duty," "Star Trek," "G.I. Joe," and "Transformers," but did not reveal further details. Considering the first film was released over a decade ago, this news is surprising.

Last year, Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits believed that the studio's "World War Z" game (with 30 million players) may have helped convince Paramount executives to approve a sequel: "30 million people have played this game, that's insane. I guess Paramount talking about making a sequel is because of that."
The first "World War Z" was released in 2013, grossing over $540 million worldwide. The sequel has faced numerous obstacles: director David Fincher was once contracted to direct, but Paramount halted pre-production in 2019 due to budget concerns. It is currently unclear whether Brad Pitt will return for the sequel.
