First Hualong One Nuclear Power Unit in the Greater Bay Area Begins Operation, Generating Over 9 Billion kWh Annually
According to CCTV News, today the first "Hualong One" nuclear power unit in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area – China General Nuclear Power Group Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project Unit 1 – began operation and is now commercially viable. This unit has achieved breakthroughs in multiple key technologies, completing 26 major design improvements, and realizing the simultaneous construction and integrated handover of a physical power plant and a "digital power plant."

It is estimated that the annual power generation will exceed 9 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the annual production and living electricity needs of millions of residents in the Greater Bay Area.
It is reported that the output of this clean energy is equivalent to reducing approximately 8.4 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions and afforesting 20,000 hectares each year.
Currently, Unit 1 has completed all performance tests and a 168-hour continuous full-power operation assessment. All parameters of the unit are normal and stable, and the unit is in good condition.
The China General Nuclear Power Group Taipingling Nuclear Power Project plans to construct 6 "Hualong One" nuclear power units in three phases. Once all are completed, the annual power generation is expected to exceed 55 billion kilowatt-hours, which can reduce standard coal consumption by approximately 16.65 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 50.82 million tons annually.
Currently, subsequent projects are steadily progressing as planned:
· Unit 2 of Phase I will begin the first fuel loading work in the near future; · Construction of Unit 3 of Phase II began in June 2025; · Preliminary preparations for Phase III are actively underway.
