Johny Srouji Appointed Apple's New Head of Hardware
Apple recently announced a new round of senior personnel adjustments. Current Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, Johny Srouji, will assume the role of Chief Hardware Officer, fully taking over the hardware engineering responsibilities previously held by John Ternus, who is set to become Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This adjustment was announced concurrently with Apple's confirmation that Tim Cook will step down as CEO this summer, with current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus, succeeding him.

According to information disclosed by Apple, Srouji will consolidate the responsibilities of the two previously separate positions of "Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering" and "Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies" under his new role as Chief Hardware Officer. This new role means he will oversee everything from chip research and development to terminal product design, providing end-to-end management of Apple's entire hardware product line. Reports indicate that this structural upgrade may continue to trigger a chain reaction of personnel and organizational adjustments within Apple in the coming period.
Current CEO Tim Cook highly praised Srouji's core role in Apple's chip strategy in a statement, calling him "one of the most talented people" he has had the pleasure of working with, and stating that he has played a "unique" role in promoting the development of Apple's self-developed chips, with an impact that extends beyond the company and has profoundly changed the entire industry. Cook pointed out that Srouji leads the team with skillful judgment, has repeatedly delivered disruptive innovations, reshaped Apple's product forms, and expressed his "immense luck" in having such a Chief Hardware Officer at a critical moment for the company.
Incoming CEO John Ternus also publicly stated that Srouji is an "incredible partner" and believes he will be an "exceptional Chief Hardware Officer." Ternus said he looks forward to working closely with Srouji in their respective new roles to jointly advance Apple's next phase of development.
According to current arrangements, Ternus will officially assume the position of Apple CEO on September 1, 2026, a date coinciding with the eve of the release of a landmark iPhone. The market generally expects that the iPhone 18 series, which will be unveiled at that time, will include the long-rumored foldable phone model, iPhone Fold, which means this autumn will be a critical juncture for the new management team and new hardware team to be tested by the market.
