WeChat Now Supports Scanning Payment Codes Across 5 Countries, Making Overseas Payments More Convenient
WeChat Pay has made a significant move, officially announcing its integration with local payment codes in five countries, making it more convenient to pay via scanning abroad. The five countries are South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Regardless of whether the local codes are pink, blue, yellow, or red, users can directly use WeChat's green scanning frame to complete payments, eliminating the need to switch between different apps or exchange excessive cash beforehand.

Specifically, in South Korea, you can scan ZeroPay; in Sri Lanka, LANKAQR; in Thailand, PromptPay; in Malaysia, DuitNow QR; and in Singapore, SGQR+. These are all the most commonly used payment codes in those countries, with wide coverage, applicable to street shops, malls, and restaurants.
This change is particularly useful for frequent travelers. Previously, traveling to different countries required researching which payment software to use locally. Now, one phone and WeChat can handle everything.
The payment process is the same as in China: open WeChat, scan, enter the amount, enter the password, and complete the transaction in a few steps, without needing to adapt to new operations.
The May Day holiday is just around the corner, and many people will be traveling to South Korea. The official announcement also includes a small benefit: scanning ZeroPay collection codes in South Korea will automatically enjoy a preferential exchange rate, making spending more cost-effective.
