China's Second Cross-Provincial Subway Line Opens: Seamless Connection Between Nanjing and Ma'anshan in 30 Minutes
The Ningma Intercity (Suburban) Railway officially commenced initial operations at 10 a.m. today, achieving direct access between the central urban areas of Nanjing and Ma'anshan in 30 minutes, officially launching a unified lifestyle for the two cities. This is Nanjing's second cross-city subway line and the second cross-provincial subway line nationwide following Shanghai's Line 11. The line is approximately 54.23 kilometers long with a total of 16 stations, 8 in Nanjing and 8 in Ma'anshan, starting at Nanjing Xishanqiao Station and ending at Ma'anshan Taibai Station, passing through Banqiao, Binjiang, Huashan, Yushan, Dangtu and other areas.
The train uses a Type B commuter train and has a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. After opening, Nanjing's subway operating mileage will increase to 579 kilometers, with a total of 283 stations.
As the first cross-provincial jointly constructed and managed intercity railway in China, the line is jointly funded and managed by Nanjing and Ma'anshan, which differs from the Shanghai Line 11 model, providing a new example for breaking down administrative barriers and promoting integration in the Yangtze River Delta.
The opening is supported by high-frequency cross-provincial demand, with approximately 12,000 passenger trips and 20,000 vehicle trips between the two cities daily, and adjacent bus passenger flow exceeding 5,000 per day.
The project has been listed as the "No. 1 Project" by Ma'anshan to integrate into the Nanjing metropolitan area since 2018, and was included in the national plan and a co-construction agreement was signed in 2020.
