PCIe 5.0 Enters the Mainstream Market with the Kioxia BG8 SSD Launch
Kioxia has officially launched the KIOXIA BG8 series, a mainstream PCIe 5.0 client solid-state drive for the PCOEM market. This new release brings the high-speed PCIe 5.0 interface beyond high-end flagships, allowing more affordable laptops and desktops to benefit from this fast technology.

The BG8 series is equipped with Kioxia's eighth-generation BiCS FLASH 3D TLC flash memory chips and utilizes a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface.
The product features a design without independent caching, utilizing Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to leverage system memory for efficient operation, striking a balance between performance, power consumption, and cost.
This is precisely the main reason it can bring PCIe 5.0 into the mainstream market.
In terms of performance, the BG8 series performs well in the mainstream market. Sequential read speeds can reach up to 10300 MB/s, and sequential write speeds can reach up to 10000 MB/s. 4K random read performance is 1400K IOPS, and 4K random write performance is 1300K IOPS.
Compared to the previous BG7 series, sequential read speeds have increased by 47%, sequential write speeds have surged by 67%, random read speeds have increased by 44%, and random write speeds have increased by 30%.
In terms of specifications, the BG8 series complies with the NVMe 2.0d standard and supports TCG Opal 2.02 self-encrypting drive functionality, providing hardware-level protection for user data.
Capacity options include 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB.
The BG8 series products are available in M.2 2230, 2242, and 2280 form factors. OEM manufacturers can flexibly adapt to various terminal forms.
Currently, Kioxia has delivered BG8 series engineering samples to some PC original equipment manufacturers, and PC products equipped with this SSD are expected to be mass-produced and shipped sequentially starting in the second quarter of 2026.
