Extended-Wheelbase BMW iX3 with Large Cylindrical Batteries Achieves Over 900km Range – A Comprehensive Look
BMW China recently launched the extended-wheelbase version of the domestically produced BMW iX3. This new model boasts numerous highlights, which can be understood with a single look. The car's exterior largely replicates the design of the overseas version, with striking digital angel eye daytime running lights and a 3D illuminated grille, which will become the standard design language for BMW's new generation of vehicles.
It will be available in 9 body colors: Mineral White, Arctic Grey, Coastal Blue, Space Silver, Blue Ridge Mountain, Carbon Black, Dune Grey, Flame Red, and Matte Space Silver.
The body dimensions of the domestic version have been further increased to cater to Chinese consumer preferences, measuring 4885*1895*1635mm in length, width, and height, respectively. The wheelbase has been extended by 108mm to 3005mm compared to the standard wheelbase version, with all the additional space added to the second row.
Notably, the long-wheelbase version features a new semi-hidden exterior door handle design exclusive to China, which is an electric and physical two-in-one switch, and incorporates "triple safety redundancy": high-voltage battery direct power supply, 12V battery backup power supply, and mechanical structure redundancy.
The rear of the vehicle also retains the horizontal L-shaped feather taillights, with the badge changed to BMW Brilliance and iX3 50L. A rear-mounted camera has been added to the center of the segmented roof spoiler, and it will be equipped with Momenta all-scenario pilot driving assistance functions tailored to local travel scenarios, covering highway and urban road scenarios.
The interior adopts BMW's latest design style, including the panoramic vision bridge, the new generation operating system X, and the horizon panoramic display system, all of which will be retained. This design is truly refreshing.
In terms of intelligent features, it fully cooperates with Chinese technology companies, introducing BMW's customized large language model (LLM) technology co-developed with Alibaba, DeepSeek's AI large model capabilities, and AI intelligent agents into the cockpit. The system also supports the HarmonyOS ecosystem, HUAWEI HiCar, and other digital services, and is equipped with a panoramic integrated sunshade.
The powertrain is also a highlight of this car. It will be equipped with the sixth-generation BMW eDrive electric drive technology, featuring an asynchronous front motor and a synchronous excited rear motor, with a maximum power of 345kW and a peak torque of 645 N·m, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
It is paired with a 108kWh large cylindrical battery, achieving a CLTC pure electric range of over 900 kilometers, with an official power consumption of 15.1kWh/100km. It adopts an 800V architecture and can replenish 427 kilometers of range in 10 minutes.
