Hong Kong PS5 Finally Gets a "Price Adjustment" One Month After Global Increases: Price Hikes Up to 43%, Effective May 1st
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced today that it will officially adjust the suggested retail price of all PS5 models in Hong Kong starting May 1st (this Friday). This price adjustment covers the disc version PS5, digital edition PS5, PS5 Pro, and PSPortal remote play device, with significant price increases for each product.
The specific new retail prices are as follows:
Disc version PS5: Increased from HK$3,780 to HK$4,730, an increase of HK$950
Digital edition PS5: Increased from HK$2,980 to HK$4,257, an increase of HK$1,277
PS5 Pro: Increased from HK$5,780 to HK$6,502, an increase of HK$722
PS Portal: Increased from HK$1,580 to HK$1,936, an increase of HK$356
Among these, the digital edition PS5 has the largest price increase, exceeding HK$1,200, while the disc version and PS5 Pro have price increases of nearly HK$1,000 and HK$700 respectively.
Sony explained the reason for the price increase in an official announcement: “Faced with continued pressure from the global economic situation, we have decided to raise the prices of PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal remote play devices globally. We understand that price changes will affect the player base, but after careful evaluation, we believe this is a necessary step to ensure that we can continue to provide innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players around the world.”
It is worth noting that Sony had already increased the prices of PS5 products in other regions on April 2nd of this year, and Hong Kong did not participate in the first round of price adjustments at that time. This price adjustment for the Hong Kong version can be seen as a completion and follow-up to the global price increase strategy.
