Tailscale Free Version No Longer Limits Device Numbers, User Limit Increased from 3 to 6
The popular virtual networking software Tailscale has recently adjusted its free benefits. Previously, the free version was limited to 3 users and 100 devices. After the adjustment, the free version now supports 6 users with no device limit, meaning users can add a large number of devices to their private network.

Some netizens speculate that this may be competitive pressure brought by the release of Cloudflare Mesh to Tailscale. However, snapshots from the Internet Archive show that Tailscale completed the free benefit change on April 8, 2026, while Cloudflare Mesh was released on April 15, so there should be no direct relationship.
The adjustments to free benefits are as follows:
Number of Users: Increased from 3 to 6
Number of Devices: Increased from 100 to unlimited
Number of ACLs: The original free version did not provide ACL groups, the new free version provides 3 ACL groups
Temporary Resources: The original free version did not provide temporary resources, the new free version provides 1000 minutes per month
Tagged Resources: The original free version did not provide tagged resources, the new free version provides 50 tagged resources
Tailscale's subscription system has also been completely updated:
Previously, Tailscale subscriptions were divided into personal and business versions. The personal version included a personal free version, a personal enhanced version, and a Starter startup version. The business version included a startup version, a Premium version, and an enterprise version. Now the entire subscription system has been simplified to four versions: a free personal version, a standard version for $8 per month, a Premium version for $18 per month, and an enterprise custom version for enterprise negotiation.
Tailscale says the goal of this update is to make the subscription plans clearer, prices more predictable, and each plan more valuable to users, especially the more generous free personal plan than before.
For existing subscribers, Tailscale will continue to offer the original pricing plan for renewal for 12 months, after which users will need to switch to the new subscription plan, which may involve price increases or other functional adjustments. Please refer to the features and pricing plans of each version for details.
