Yadi and 7 Other Companies Summoned for Talks: Prohibition of Add-ons and Modifications, Speed Limit of 25 km/h
With the deepening implementation of the new national standard for electric bicycles, the market is entering a period of strict regulation. Despite the new rules being in place, some products on the market still do not strictly comply with relevant regulations. In response to this phenomenon, Beijing's market supervision department recently launched a large-scale special rectification campaign.
So far this year, relevant departments have severely cracked down on illegal acts of exceeding standards and modifications through various means such as undercover investigations, surprise night inspections, and tracing investigations. Currently, 84 illegal cases have been investigated and dealt with, and 4 black workshops for exceeding standards and modifications have been successfully dismantled in collaboration with the public security department, with more than 120 illegal vehicles seized on-site.
Regarding the typical problems discovered during the special rectification, the Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation recently held a public meeting with 8 mainstream electric bicycle manufacturers – Yadi, Aima, Tailg, Ninebot, Niu, Xiaodao, Xinyi, and LvYuan – and their sales agents in Beijing.
The talks clearly put forward five prohibitions, emphasizing the prohibition of producing and selling vehicles inconsistent with the certified samples. In addition, companies are required to prohibit reserving modification space, prohibit selling uncertified or non-compliant vehicles, and strictly prohibit any form of add-on and modification behavior.
The regulatory department emphasized that companies must strictly implement the main responsibility for quality and safety. Any modification that removes speed limits, increases battery compartment capacity, or changes the vehicle's appearance through technical means will greatly increase the risk of spontaneous combustion and traffic accidents during driving.
According to the latest safety technical specifications, the maximum design speed of electric bicycles shall not exceed 25 kilometers per hour, and must have an overspeed cut-off function. In actual driving, according to relevant road traffic laws and regulations, the maximum speed of electric bicycles in non-motorized lanes shall not exceed 15 kilometers per hour.
This large-scale meeting demonstrates the determination of the regulatory department to govern the safety of electric bicycles. By controlling the entire chain from the source of production to the sales terminal, it will further compress the living space of vehicles that exceed standards and are illegal, and effectively protect the road travel safety of the majority of consumers.
