BYD Delivers 100,000th Vehicle in Australia – A "Shark" Electric Pickup
BYD has officially delivered its 100,000th vehicle in the Australian market, achieving this milestone in less than three and a half years since its launch in Australia in November 2022, setting a record for the fastest growth of a Chinese automotive brand in the Australian market. Liu Xue Liang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific, personally handed over the keys to a blue Shark 6 Premium plug-in hybrid pickup to the owner in Brisbane, a model that is one of the best-selling pickups and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the Australian market.

BYD's growth curve in the Australian market can be described as "steep": in 2025, its total sales reached 52,415 units, a year-on-year increase of 156.2%, and it entered the top eight in Australian brand sales for the first time. Benefiting from the global surge in oil prices, its monthly sales ranking jumped to third in March 2026, setting a record high for Chinese brands in Australia.
Two models contributed to the core sales. The Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pickup is designed for Australians' preference for pickup truck usage and is the most popular pickup and plug-in hybrid model among local private buyers.
The other is the Seal Lion 7 all-electric SUV, which became Australia's all-electric sales champion in December last year with 2,546 units sold, ranking fourth in the entire market.
In addition, the BYD Atto 3, as the first model to enter Australia, has established a good market foundation for the brand and is now one of the best-selling all-electric models in Australia.
