Report Claims Remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 Have Begun
According to industry insider RebsGaming, Halo Studios has officially started development of remakes for the remaining two titles in the original Halo trilogy, in addition to the remake of *Halo: Combat Evolved*. Following the announcement of *Halo: Combat Evolved* in late 2025, rumors and speculation about remakes of *Halo 2* and *Halo 3* have been rampant. It's worth noting that *Halo: Combat Evolved* was also leaked by multiple industry insiders several months before its official announcement.

Following the release of *Halo Infinite*, reports surrounding the Halo series have been continuous, focusing on the plans for the series’ development by Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) after the impressive launch and subsequent decline in reception of *Halo Infinite*. Initial reports included a service-based standalone multiplayer game, remakes of *Halo: Combat Evolved*, *Halo 2*, and *Halo 3*, and the next mainline installment in the series. These reports were corroborated by industry figures such as Rebs Gaming and Halo Leaks on Twitter. Currently, the only confirmed project from these leaks is the upcoming *Halo: Combat Evolved*. This complete remake of the original Halo is being built in Unreal Engine 5, featuring new mission content, gameplay upgrades, and mechanic overhauls, including the controversial sprint function. *Halo: Combat Evolved* is scheduled for release in July 2026, while the development status of the service-based game and the next mainline installment remains unclear.
Previously, Rebs Gaming reported that Halo Studios planned to remake *Halo 2* and *Halo 3*. Now, Rebs further confirms that the last two titles in the original Halo trilogy have been greenlit and are in active development. Rebs Gaming announced this on their YouTube channel, stating that multiple sources have confirmed the development status of both titles. This includes a new, verified source who explicitly stated that both games are in early development, and another previous source who confirmed the existence of *Halo: Combat Evolved* and now also confirms the greenlighting of these two remakes. Currently, no details have been revealed regarding what changes and upgrades will be made to *Halo 2* and *Halo 3* compared to the originals; however, previous rumors suggest that both titles will likely follow the development plan of *Halo: Combat Evolved* and also be remade in Unreal Engine 5.
On social media, fan reactions to the potential remakes of *Halo 2* and *Halo 3* have been mixed. Some fans believe that Halo Studios should focus on innovating the Halo series’ content rather than remaking these games, which may not even need remaking, especially considering the already excellent remake of *Halo 2: Anniversary*. Many fans feel that even by 2026, the Halo trilogy created by Bungie will still perform well and has already been excellently preserved and optimized through *Halo: The Master Chief Collection*. At the same time, a significant portion of Halo fans are excited about the remakes of these original titles, and some even suggest that *Halo 3: ODST* and *Halo: Reach* should also be remade in Unreal Engine 5.
Following the release of *Halo Infinite*, 343 Industries completed a restructuring and rebranding, officially becoming Halo Studios, and the future of the Halo series once again became uncertain, falling into the hands of a new team. However, as time has passed, the direction of the series is becoming clearer. If the reports are true, the future focus of the Halo series will be various remakes and service-based spin-off games, while the team is also continuing to develop the next mainline installment in the series, with more content to follow. This is a stark contrast to the series’ operating model over the years: previously, the series typically released a major mainline title every few years and a smaller spin-off title every two years, with these spin-off titles usually developed by outsourced teams or in collaboration with other studios.
The high-definition remaster of the original trilogy created by Bungie is not new to the Halo series—*Halo: Combat Evolved* and *Halo 2* were upgraded in 2011 and 2014, respectively. However, the most anticipated aspect of these rumors is perhaps the remake of *Halo 3*. *Halo 3* was a milestone title in the Halo series, almost becoming a cultural phenomenon before its release in 2007, and still enjoys a high status in the hearts of fans today, and *Halo 2* is equally significant. For many players, these two titles are always competing for the position of the most important and special game in the series, and they absolutely do not want to see any changes to the originals. Halo fans are always a passionate and dedicated group, so how Halo Studios plans to redo and modernize *Halo 2* and *Halo 3*, balancing the needs of both new and old players, is worth paying attention to.
