Huang Renxun Criticizes Musk, Amodei, and Others for Senselessly Hyping the AI Apocalypse: Don't Act Like God
AI has already begun to have a significant impact on humanity, and this is a fact. As AI develops, its impact will only grow. Facing AI, the world's 8 billion people can generally be divided into two groups: those who believe AI can be helpful, and those who believe AI will bring destruction. Some tech giants in Silicon Valley fall into the latter category, with many even promoting the idea of an AI apocalypse.
However, in the view of NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun, those who hype this AI apocalypse are absurd. He recently named Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, as well as Tesla and xAI CEO Musk, in a blog post.
Amodei previously predicted that AI would replace 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs in the next few years, while Musk's claims were even more exaggerated, directly stating that AI has a 20% chance of destroying humanity. Huang Renxun criticized their statements as absurd and unhelpful.
Huang Renxun believes that as industry leaders, their views on AI should be based on factual discussion, not the spreading of panic.
Why are people like Amodei and Musk so eager to spread the idea that AI will replace or even destroy humanity? Huang Renxun pointed out incisively that some CEOs now develop a God complex, believing they are all-powerful and all-knowing.
It must be said that Huang Renxun's assessment is indeed accurate. Do Amodei and Musk truly believe that AI will destroy humanity? Not necessarily, but they need to create this atmosphere of panic, then create the feeling that only they or their companies can save everyone. Ultimately, they simply want to use everyone's panic to deify themselves and their companies, and to make money.
If you have followed the words and deeds of Anthropic CEO Amodei, OpenAI CEO Altman, and Musk in recent years, you will find that they constantly boast that their large models have already achieved 80% or even complete AGI, but releasing them would have a huge impact. They are using everyone's fear of AI technology, and Huang Renxun's evaluation of them – "don't act like God" – is spot on.
In contrast, Huang Renxun's attitude towards AI is more realistic. He also acknowledges that AI will replace some people's jobs, but has repeatedly stated that AI will create new demands and new job opportunities, and even less high-tech professions such as electricians can benefit from opportunities such as data center construction.
Huang Renxun previously stated that everyone should be able to live a good life, and you don't need a PhD in computer science to do so.
