Woman Sentenced for Throwing Two Bicycles from 18th Floor During Argument with Boyfriend
Recently, the People's Court of the Economic and Technological Development Zone of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, issued a first-instance verdict in a case of high-altitude throwing. Zhang, a woman, was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for one year, and fined 3,000 yuan for throwing two children's bicycles from the 18th floor.

On the morning of August 15, 2025, Zhang had a quarrel with her boyfriend, with whom she lived, over a trivial matter in a residential community in Nantong Development Zone.
After her boyfriend left, Zhang, in order to vent her emotions, threw two children's bicycles from the 18th floor through the corridor.
The falling objects hit an electric scooter parked next to a flowerbed downstairs, causing damage to the front of the vehicle. The property loss was determined to be 500 yuan.
After the incident, Zhang voluntarily surrendered to the authorities and truthfully confessed to the relevant facts, and compensated the victim for their property loss, obtaining their forgiveness.
The procuratorial organ prosecuted Zhang for the crime of high-altitude throwing. After trial, the court held that Zhang’s act of throwing objects from a high altitude was serious and constituted the crime of high-altitude throwing. Considering her voluntary surrender, compensation, and obtaining forgiveness, the court made the above verdict in accordance with the law.
According to relevant provisions of China’s Criminal Law, throwing objects from buildings or other high places, if the circumstances are serious, constitutes the crime of high-altitude throwing. Zhang’s actions have violated the law and she must bear corresponding criminal responsibility.
