New PS6 Leak: SSD Performance Doubled, PS5 Game Compatibility
According to foreign media MP1st, Sony's next-generation console PS6 will significantly improve storage speed. The PS6 may debut with brand new cloud gaming technology. Additionally, through cloud streaming capabilities and compatibility with PS5 games, it may alleviate player concerns about high upgrade costs.

Previously, many rumors about the PS6 have focused on hardware specifications, but cloud gaming is also a key focus. MP1st pointed out that Sony has been heavily investing in server technology over the past three years, optimizing infrastructure by adopting PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDs. It is rumored that the PS6 will also be equipped with the same type of hard drive.
Enhancing Cloud Gaming (Cloud Streaming) and Storage Performance
Storage Leap: The PS5 currently uses PCIe Gen4 SSDs, while the PS6 console itself is likely to adopt PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDs, with performance expected to double.
Cost Challenges: Cloud gaming will become a more attractive alternative as storage and memory shortages may drive up the console price.
Hardware Synergy: The rumored PS6 handheld, in addition to natively running PS5 games, will also support cloud gaming and remote play.
Capacity and Compression: Although speed is improved, to maintain a reasonable MSRP, the PS6's initial storage may still be 1TB. Sony is trying to reduce game installation size without sacrificing image quality through neural texture compression technology, utilizing AI GPUs.
Backward Compatibility
If the PS6 is expensive, the PS5's lifecycle may be further extended. MP1st learned that Sony is simultaneously developing 2D and 3D assets for both the PS5 and PS6 generations.
While this is not surprising, it also indirectly confirms previous leaks about cross-generational compatibility. In other words, this means that the first batch of users upgrading to the PS6 will not need to immediately purchase new games and can continue to play existing PS5 titles.
Regarding the launch lineup, MP1st also hinted that an "immersive third-person horror shooter" is currently in development and may be one of the key titles for the early PS6.
