iPhone 18 Pro Series May Feature a Smaller Dynamic Island, Touch ID Component Reportedly Moving Under Display
Recent reports from a leaker on X (formerly Twitter) indicate that newly obtained CAD files from an accessory manufacturer for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max show a significantly smaller cutout area at the top of the screen. The leaker suggests these CAD files are likely based on official Apple data used for early development of accessories like cases if the information is accurate.

The exposed diagrams show that the cutout at the top of the new Pro models appears noticeably narrower than the "Dynamic Island" used since the iPhone 14 Pro, although the height may increase slightly, resulting in a more compact overall shape. Some believe this "shorter, fatter, and thinner, taller" change may have some visual illusion, but the trend of width reduction is very obvious.
If this design is finalized, industry speculation suggests that Apple has moved some Touch ID-related components under the screen, freeing up space previously occupied in the cutout area and thus reducing the size of the front cutout. Reports indicate that with adjustments to the stacking method of sensors and modules, Apple can ensure functions like Face ID while releasing more space for the screen's visible area.
Combined with previous rumors from multiple sources, the overall back design of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to largely continue from previous products, with only minor adjustments to details. In this context, a smaller "Dynamic Island" is expected to be one of the most significant visual changes to this year's Pro series and will also become an important visual marker to distinguish new and old models.
Currently, more details about the iPhone 18 series remain in the stage of leaks and rumors, including pricing strategies, commemorative version designs, and other potential hardware upgrades, none of which have been officially confirmed by Apple. As usual, Apple is expected to officially release the new generation of iPhone this fall, at which time this round of rumors about the "Dynamic Island" size change will be finally verified.
